Will S-Combo work with FS2004

Yes

Will S-Combo work with FS2002

Yes it will.  You must download the latest patch first though (version 2.0) and you must also have the latest version of FSUIPC installed (version 2.77 or later).  Finally, before 'connecting' S-Combo to FS you must be looking at your aircraft's panel and not the new front end menu system in FS2002.

Since installing the S-Combo patch I keep getting errors with a message saying something about an error in PlayGPWS routine!

If you're using the latest patch it sounds like you have a too smaller time delay set for the Airport Ambience delay option.

Go to the Options display and enter a a time delay for both Airport Ambience and also the ATC Chatter functions. You probably still have this set to the original default of 'minutes' but this was changed with version 1.1 to allow for entering 'SECONDS'. So, if you still have the default settings of '1' and '2', these need changing to '60' and '120' respectively.

One point to remember... currently this time delay begins the instant a wav file starts to play, so the time delay entered should be longer than the longest file you're likely to play/install. Personally I think a setting of 30-45 seconds for the Airport Ambience should suffice and 120 seconds for ATC chatter. Obviously, with the later, if you decide to install any long playing ATC chatter files this figure would have to be adjusted accordingly.

When using some third party panels I tend to get duplicate GPWS calls.

If the panel you're using already has some of the calls inbuilt into it's gauges you MUST deselect those options in S-Combo to prevent these double calls.

When I try to connect S-Combo to Flight Sim I get the following error:-  'IPC contains bad data'   -  What's wrong?

It sounds as if you're using the WRONG version of FSUIPC.  You MUST use version 2.30 or later.  Please check the INSTALLATION section of the S-Combo User Guide for full instructions and links on where to obtain the latest version of FSUIPC.

Whenever I change views in Fightsim, from internal to external, or select another aircraft, S-Combo fails with an error message.

This was noticed on some systems during beta testing and is due to an FSUIPC timeout occuring when Flightsim is very 'busy'.  A simple workaround for this is to open the S-Combo.INI file (which you'll find in the main S-Combo folder), using Notepad (or similar) and look for the entry marked UIPCTimeout=5 which will be found very near the top.   The value set hear is 'seconds' and is the timeout value used by FSUIPC, which in itself retries ten times, with each retry lasting 5 seconds (or whatever value is entered here), so by default the maximum timeout is 50 seconds.  If you are experiencing timeout problems try changing this value to 10 and try again.  You could obviously even try a higher value if you continue to get problems.

Some of the S-Combo hotkeys conflict with another Flight Sim addon program I'm using.  Does this mean I can't use both these programs together?

You certainly can.   S-Combo provides a means by which these hotkeys can be changed to use almost any key combination you require.  Please see the S-Combo User Guide documnet section entitled Hotkeys for further information.

I have a lot of old Profile files which I no longer need.  Can I delete these and how?

There is no built in functionlity in S-Combo to delete these files.  Simply use Explorer to delete any *.PRO files found in your main S-Combo\Data folder.

Will S-Combo affect my frame rates

The honest answer must be yes!  Any application you have running alongside Flight Sim must be using a certain amount of your CPU's processing time, which by definition must leave less for FS to use.   But is it noticeable?  NO!  You should not find any noticeable degredation of FPS when using S-Combo.

Where can I find more documentaion/help on all the various configuration options within the S-Combo displays.

Simple!  Just place your mouse pointer over the descriptive text of any control, then right-click to display a context sensitive help screen.

I used the C/S/A hotkey but I can still hear the copilot calls.

Correct!  C/S/A only toggles the Cabin Announcements on/off.

When I change the aircraft selection for 'Flaps' the checklist aircraft doesn't change automatically.

No, it doesn't by design.   Consider this... you wish to use an aircraft not currently listed in either the 'flaps' or 'checklist' selections.  In this case you could possible find a 'flap' setting that matched the aircraft type you're useing but the actual checklist required might be more suitably matched from a totally different aircraft type.  Making the two selections totally independat provides much greater flexbility, allowing you to use the S-Combo with ANY aircraft type.

I started S-Combo, then Flight Sim, but the S-Combo functions do not appear to be working.

Make sure you 'connect' to Flight Sim by using the 'Connect' control button on the main display.

Whenever I exit Flight Simulator I always get an error message from S-Combo

Always 'disconnect' S-Combo BEFORE exiting Flight Simulator.

I've ativated the ATC Chatter option but I still can't hear any background ATC chatter.

Have you installed some ATC chatter files?  if not, that's the reason.  The S-Combo does NOT come supplied with any such files.  Please see the S-ComboUser Guide document section entitles ATC Chatter Files for full details.

I've just installed additional copilot voice sets but I still can't select them because the options are still greyed out.

You've probably installed the additional voice sets into the wrong folder.  If, when you installed the main program, you chose the default installation all you need to do when running the voice set instal is again, choose the defaults.  If, on the other hand, you chose to install the main program somewhere other than the default location you MUST install the voice sets into the same folder.

When I start the S-Combo and go into the options display all the copilot voice set options are greyed out, except for number 1.

Copilot voice set #1 is included with the main download, voice sets #2 to #9 are all optional and supplied as separate downloads from www.flightsim.com and www.avsim.com

The checklist section options are all greyed out!  Why?

These options are ONLY available when selecting Semi-Auto mode, and when doing so they will be activated.

I have all the volume controls set to maximum but still can't quite hear the copilot calls very well.

Well my old sound engineer instructor always used to say 'Less is More' when it came to mixing sounds.  Have you tried turning the main Flight Sim sounds down to a level where you will then need to turn the S-Combo sounds down to match.  At which point you'll probably find you can turn your master (amp) volume up from the normal setting.

Can I use S-Combo with Flight Sim 98

YES!  I have had quite a few users calling me to say they've used it successfully, although it's quite possible that 'some' configurations make not work as expected.  Please note though, it would appear S-Combo will only work with FS98 if using FSUIPC version 2.30... at the time of writing version 2.40 will not work in this configuration. FSUIPC version 2.40 works just fine with FS2K.

Can I use your S-Combo with Radar Contact

YES!  Although I believe you will have to deselect some of the calls in S-Combo as they are already provided in RC.

The following Problems / Question all relate to Version 2 of the Combo Module, which unfortunately I no longer support.  This FAQ section will be expanded to include questions related to the S-Combo as and when they arise.

Please check the PF2K Companion Set page for details on the latest available version of the module.

What's the best way for me to get information on when the next release of your Combo Module is available.

There are a number of ways to do this......

(a) You can check back here at my website

(b) Check the Microwings Pilot Centre forum

(c) Check the AVSIM ProFlight forum

(d) Check the New Library Additions at either Flightsim.com or Avsim

(e) Join my 'Combo Alert' service and I will email you the moment a new release has been uploaded to my website.  To do so simply send me an email with the words combo alert as the subject matter.

Why is the Flight Time calculated from PushBack to Setting Parking Brakes at the destination.

Why not.  I know some have suggested the Flight Time should be calculated differently, but that is how it works with the VA I fly for and this, after all, is 'my module' <BG>

I don't always hear all the cabin crew announcements Eg. 'Cabin Crew prepare for Gate Departure'

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an easy answer for this at the moment.  I believe it's just a timing issue and depend entirely on what ProFlight is doing at the time.  Please remember this is only a 'module'....  a child process of ProFlight 2000, which in turn is  a child process of Flight Simulator.

The Ctrl+\ (Control plus Backslash) doesn't display my Flight Time in version 2.2

This is a know problem which will be fixed in the next release.  As a temporary workaround please select the 'Manual Ding' option in the Combo GUI and this will ensure the Ctrl+\ will always work correctly.

If I have to reinstall the Combo Module and/or GUI do I need ALL the previous updates and patches.

No, you only need the Version 2 (the big download) and then the latest update/patch as that will always contain ALL previous changes/updates, etc.

Whenever I change the IAS Active value from 40 knots it always reverts back when I start the GUI again.

Download the latest patch.   This was fixed in the GUI version 1.0.21

When I run the module in Manual mode it crashes shortly after take off.

Download the latest patch.   This was fixed in version 2.2

When I try to compile an adventure I get 'Your Flight Plan had Errors in it', but when I put the old module back it's okay.

Download the latest ProFlight patch.  Version 2 of my module was written to compliment the latest ProFlight release and will not work with earlier versions.

The GPWS landing calls started even though I was several thousand feet above 2500

Download the latest patch. This was fixed in version 2.2

Adventure crashes when I SLEW toward the active runway

Download the latest patch.   This was fixed in version 2.1

Adventure crashes as I start to Taxi toward the active runway.

Make sure you installed the Combo Module WAV files into your Flight Simulator ADV \ WAV folder and nowhere else!  If you're certain the installation is correct download this small file, which can be run from anywhere on your system.  Once finished you should find a small file in you C Drive ROOT directory called  Combolog.Txt  which you should email to me with a brief note about the problem you're experiencing.  Hopefully this will help me find the problem.

Combo GUI won't run.  No error messages, it just doesn't run.

You're not using the latest version of the Combo GUI.  This problem was fixed in version 1.0.12.   get the very latest version Here

When using the US flight crew announcements the wrong message is played when the adventure starts.  This message is then repeated after gate departure.

You're not using the latest version or PF2K Combo Module. This problem was fixed in Version 1.1  Get the very latest update from Here

I don't here the GPWS landing callouts eg. 1000, 500, etc...

The module default settings are my own preferences and because I'm addicted to the PSS 777, which has built in landing callouts, I've switch this function off.  To turn them on, simply use Notepad (or similar) to edit the module.  Look for the PERSONALISE section and the entry marked GPWS98Landing=0 and change the Zero to a '1'

Eg. GPWS98Landing=1

The module is well documented to enable you to change various functional settings, but always make a copy first!

How do I activate the NEW function so I can activate the Cabin Ding sound Look for the PERSONALISE section and the entry marked ManualDingActive=0 and change the Zero to a '1'

Eg. ManualDingActive=1

The module is well documented to enable you to change various functional settings, but always make a copy first!

I can't find the line with the entry ManualDingActive=0 so how can I activate this new function You're not using the latest version or PF2K Combo Module. This new function was added in Version 1.2  Get the very latest update from Here
During a landing phase the GPWS altitude callouts are being repeated (like an echo) One set of callouts will be activated via the Combo module whilst the others will probably be generated from the aircraft/panel you're using.  Turn the module callouts off to prevent this problem.

Look for the PERSONALISE section and the entry marked GPWS98Landing=1 and change the   '1' to a Zero

Eg. GPWS98Landing=0

The module is well documented to enable you to change various functional settings, but always make a copy first!

I've installed the latest update but I don't seem to see or hear any of the changes. You must recompile any of your adventures to incorporate the latest updates, simply copying the new module into the ProFlight Modules folder is not enough.
